Travel Updates – December 2024

December is a wonderful time to relax in a secluded tented camp or to enjoy the peace of wildlife in a sanctuary.

The concept for the Cardamom Tented Camp originated from the need for a sustainable tourism development project, which is a mandatory requirement for the Eco-Tourism, Eco Lodge, and Conservation Concession granted by the Royal Government of Cambodia in 2009.

The eco-lodge camp, which opened in November 2017, allocates a percentage of its revenue directly to Wildlife Alliance and its conservation efforts within the park. Any additional profits are reinvested locally. Wildlife Alliance also receives support from the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation, an initiative of The Minor Group.

This small-scale, low-impact eco-lodge camp features nine basic yet comfortable tented accommodations designed to provide guests with a comprehensive nature experience while actively contributing to research, protection, and conservation efforts for the existing natural reserves.

Given the Camp’s location within a protected area, significant emphasis has been placed on sustainable building techniques that integrate with the natural environment, rather than clearing land or cutting down trees. All selected building materials are either reclaimed or sourced from local communities in Koh Kong Province, focusing on fast-growing options.

Dong Thap
Explore the Bird National Park

Tram Chim National Park, located in the Tam Nong District of Dong Thap Province, is home to over 230 bird species, including 32 rare species, with 16 classified as endangered according to the Red Book. In 2012, it was recognized as the 2,000th Ramsar site in the world and the fourth in Vietnam, making it a critical area for the preservation of the red-crowned crane.

The best time to visit the park is in February, when visitors can witness the return of many bird species. Guests have the option to explore the park via motorboat or wooden boat, with two travel routes available: one covering 12 kilometers and taking approximately 1.5 hours, and the other covering 21 kilometers and lasting about 3 hours.

During the journey, visitors will encounter the Dong Thap Muoi region, characterized by melaleuca forests, grassy fields, rice paddies, and lotus fields. From August to November, during the floating season, Tram Chim offers sightseeing routes that provide opportunities for activities such as fishing and mouse-catching.
